The NFL Toss of the Coin

While this National Lampoon article is more about New York Giants humor that I don't get, this caught my attention:I’m writing a complaint letter to Wachovia. Plus, the play of the game was not theBoss TD that was played on the jumbotron, it was the coin toss thatgave the Giants the ball first in OT.NL is so right on this one, overtime in the NFL is a joke.  The winner of the coin toss is, in most games, going to drive down the field far enough to kick a field goal.  Let's put aside the whole notion that a draw is somehow an unacceptable result in American football.  As a soccer enthusiast, I reject this totally.  I realize I'm very much in the minority here; Americans gotta have a winner.  Accepting this as the way things are, the issue becomes, what sort of winner do we want?The 15-minute NFL overtime period is silly.  If you really want a winning result from every game, do it like the NCAA does, where each team gets a chance to score.  Back-and-forth, like Rocky and Apollo, until one of them is no longer standing.
