About the book - Brothers of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans |
Brothers of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans is my second book in Arcadia Publishing's Images of America series. It is 128 pages, trade paperback-size, containing over 200 photographs. There are six chapters:
- Chapter One - Origins (1821-1924)
- Chapter Two - Esplanade and North Rampart (1924-1952)
- Chapter Three - Expansion and Consolidation (1952-1969)
- Chapter Four - Unification (1969-1979)
- Chapter Five - Century II (1979-2005)
- Chapter Six - Phoenix Rising (2005- )
The book chronicles the journey of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart from France, to Mobile, AL, to New Orleans, and the foundation of St. Aloysius College (High School). From the establishment of St. Aloysius in 1869, the book presents the history of the school and the New Orleans Province through photos. The Brothers expanded their presence in New Orleans in 1954, with the opening of Cor Jesu High in Gentilly, and the consolidation of the two schools into Brother Martin High School in 1969.
